Celebrating the incredible strength, resilience, and achievements of women around the globe.

March eighth celebrates the incredible strength, resilience, and achievements of women around the globe. To the trailblazers who paved the way, the changemakers shaping our future, and the everyday heroes making a difference. Thank you. Here’s to breaking barriers, supporting each other, and continuing to empower women everywhere.

International Women’s Day serves as a powerful reminder of the interconnectedness between the progress of women and the resilience of survivors of domestic, family, and sexual violence. As we celebrate the achievements of women shaping our future, it is essential to recognise the profound impact that these advancements can have on survivors and their healing journey.

The theme for IWD 2024 is #InspireInclusion and as internationalwomensday.com says “Imagine a world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that’s diverse, equitable, and inclusive.”

Women who have faced and overcome domestic, family, or sexual violence exemplify incredible strength and fortitude. They have overcome bias that may have included victim-blaming, shame and stigmatisation, and institutional scepticism. They have risen beyond the stereotypes and societal misconceptions such as weakness. They may have faced discrimination from workplaces, their cultural or religious communities, or the legal system.

The connection lies in the shared journey of empowerment. Women shaping our future, whether in leadership, advocacy, or innovation, create spaces for survivors to be heard, acknowledged, and supported. The representation of women in diverse fields challenges stereotypes and fosters environments where survivors can see themselves not as victims defined by their past, but as individuals with the mechanism to shape their own destinies.

Moreover, initiatives led by women’s movements often advocate for policies and resources that directly benefit survivors. They work towards dismantling systemic barriers, challenging societal norms, and creating a culture of empathy and support. The progress made by women in various fields contributes to a more compassionate and understanding society; one that recognises the strength and potential of survivors.

Gloria Steinem, world-renowned feminist, journalist and activist once explained The story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights. International Women’s Day becomes a poignant moment to reflect on the collective power of women in reshaping narratives and fostering environments of empowerment.

Adamas Nexus is a Registered Charity volunteer support group, helping survivors of domestic, family and sexual violence to recover, rebuild and re-engage. One of the key focus items of IWD is to fundraise for female-focused charities, so choose us! When you support Adamas Nexus you are standing with all survivors of domestic, family and sexual violence, and helping them to be more than their trauma.

Every dollar you donate is used to set up more meetings around Australia, helping women thrive for themselves, their families and their communities. Adamas Nexus does not receive any ongoing Government funding.  You, the community, help us to make these meetings possible.
